Critics Consensus

Constricting its two stars inside an airless presentation of a clunky techno-thriller premise, Mercy is tedious enough to make you cry uncle.

It has aspirations to be RoboCop but this feels more like autopilot. Pratt is committed and the plotting is sometimes effective, but Rebecca Ferguson’s non-Dredd-ful judge is the only good reason to watch it. Go to Full Review

Everything’s laid on so thick, as slick entertainment, that it pretends to sound dire notes of caution while bouncing around as a whizzily inane high-tech romp. Go to Full Review

There are no insights on screen that you won’t expect from speed-watching the trailer (or speed-reading this review). If this worst-case scenario does yet happen, it will surely not turn out quite so boringly. Go to Full Review

Anchored by one of Chris Pratt’s boldest and darkest performances to date, this exciting film proves that even in a single chair, with nowhere to run, white-knuckled tension can be found in unexpected places. Go to Full Review

There’s a perfect if unintended harmony of form and content in Mercy: This harebrained real-time whodunit about an accused killer standing trial before an AI judge appears to have been written, directed, and performed via algorithm. Go to Full Review

It’s almost designed to be totally forgotten within in a month, but it’s brisk and action-packed and, despite the fact that its hero is strapped to a chair for much of its runtime, the film itself never sits still. Go to Full Review

AKSalmonQueen 4h Was a bit predictable but still kept you thinking and wondering if this is the future of our court system. Best performance I've seen from Chris Pratt and I'm a fan of his, especially The Terminal LIst, Dark Wolf and The Tomorrow War. See more doru b 5h Original, interesting, do not forget the 3D glasses to watch, amazing. See more Peter F 5h Mercy just leaves you just empty. It tries to play it that AI and humanity should work together and it’s preformed so poorly. To many loopholes and no warrants See more a.i. biggs 5h not bad, it was a well put together movie all around! See more Teisha 6h My son and I really enjoyed this movie!
