Critics Consensus

Loaded Weapon 1 hits all the routine targets with soft squibs, yielding a tired parody that cycles through its laundry list of references with little comedic verve.

If I listened closely, I could hear faint snores. (The more I think about it, they might have been my own.) Go to Full Review Clifford Terry Chicago Tribune Aug 11, 2020

...a decent-enough parody film that feels like it could (and should) be better. Go to Full Review Malcolm L. Johnson Hartford Courant Aug 11, 2020
Neither Estevez nor Jackson displays much sense of comic edge. So after 15 minutes or so, "Loaded Weapon" becomes a shaggy cop story, a pointless joke that runs on ad nauseam. Go to Full Review People Staff People Magazine Aug 11, 2020
There are enough serious laughs to suggest that Quintano may give the Abrahams-Zucker team (Naked Gun; Airplane) substantial competition in the mainstream parody business. Go to Full Review Read all reviews

Jay W @RT52162311 Sep 22, 2026 This one was a big surprise for me. I had heard very little about this film, and what I did hear was not good. Now granted, comedy is a subjective thing, what I find funny may not be for you. But I was laughing out loud a lot throughout the film's runtime. It has funny 4th wall breaks, unexpected cameos, jokes at the expense of action movies, and Tim Curry pretending to be a girl scout. What? I Liked it.
