Critics Consensus

Formulaic in its plotting and cliched in its dialogue, Pride and Glory does little to distinguish itself from other police procedurals.

The actors in Pride and Glory do their best with this cliched material, but the film is so grim, ugly and miserable that it's difficult to sympathise with even the most positive characters.

While its kinetic appeal does have a numbing - if temporary effect - on your critical faculties, television has been much more successful in claiming this territory as its own.

Pride and Glory boasts such a generic and instantly forgettable title that viewers might remember the film as Honor and Justice or Law and Order or Cops and Crooks or, with apologies to Dostoevsky, Crime and Punishment.

By the end O'Connor has achieved something that, while not quite extraordinary, is still quite notable for the tension it builds and its powerhouse payoff.

A very drawn-out police drama about nasty cops. Clearly not for everyone.

I thought Pride and Glory was pretty mediocre. The cast, including Edward Norton and Noah Emmerich, is solid, but the story feels cluttered and overstuffed with clichés. The movie tries to balance intense family drama with gritty police action, but it doesn’t fully succeed at either. The plot twists are predictable, and the pacing drags in places, making it hard to stay fully engaged. Overall, I’d give it a 4/10—it’s watchable in parts, but it never rises above being just okay, lacking the depth or excitement it aims for.

Nothing to be proud of and certainly no glory to be found. Occasionally a cliched, formulaic movie is still enjoyable or at least has SOME redeeming quality. This is NOT one of those occasions.

I always enjoyed this movie. Still do 16 years later. Great actors and it's a storyline I haven't seen a million times. The ending was shocking.
