As a history lesson about Canada's unjust treatment of Native Americans, it's often eye-opening, but as storytelling it's clunky and highly familiar, and the period re-creation is seldom convincing. Go to Full Review Michael Rechtshaffen Los Angeles Times Oct 27, 2014
Writer-director Barnaby weaves a surprising amount of tenderness into the fabric of violence, as well as a good measure of magic realism, to keep the gritty story engaging. Go to Full Review Liam Lacey Globe and Mail Jan 31, 2014

Barnaby puts a mythic frame around a grim history, shaping it in a way that feels always like a creative adventure, not a duty. Go to Full Review Joe Lipsett Bloody Disgusting Jan 25, 2023
Rhymes for Young Ghouls is incredibly political and confrontational; [the] genre elements help make them accessible for audiences, [it] is a passionate defense of Indigenous rights and, more importantly, a call to arms against white Canadian settlers. There is sardonic humour and grit in the storytelling topped by a wicked soundtrack. Go to Full Review Read all reviews

Oaklee D @ODie63 Jun 12, 2025 A confronting coming of age drama film from Canada that I thoroughly enjoyed. See more Stoner J @Stoner Oct 30, 2023 It could have been much better but strange choices in the writing and directing. It's definitely much more of a slow drama, than a thriller. In fact there's just a couple parts that are thrilling and the rest is super slow and kinda strange. See more May 16, 2020 Not a lot of laughs. Drugs take over from alcohol in ‘The Art of Forgetfulness'. Well worth seeing though. Good performances all round. See more Oct 24, 2017 There is an underlying sense of anger throughout the film and that anger is why I loved this movie so much. See more Feb 23, 2017 A stylish and captivating indie piece. See more Nov 29, 2016 The story is about how relentless abuses and ignorance is fertile terrain for more abuse and ignorance while creating a drive for a mafia style mob enterprise. This is how the mafia started probably in sicily. Well, it is not brilliance for sure. Stupid mafia and stupid police go so well together. Well made film with stunted characters and/or probably psychopathic. A bit hypnotic. See more Read all reviews
