moon s Jan 7 finally, a remake that's actually decent, i understand the origional portrays a more dark theme, but thtis remake was truly a wonerful more fun and creative plot. great performance by several a listers. worth a watch See more Blu B Oct 21 Did this need a remake? No. But is this pointless? No..I think it's an interesting take to lean much more on making this a dark comedy than a Horror film. It changes things significantly and is a completely different take on the same core ideas and commentary the original has. Shining a light more on men and women rather than just both. Oz's direction isn't bad here. It's a memorable location and for the most part it isn't a frame by frame remake. It's overall half decent. The acting is a weird camp borderline self aware type that works in the context of a comedy. There are some laughs here and there too but nothing outrageously funny but nothing terrible either. Really this has the same problem the first had only a bit worse perhaps where it feels like all the events don't follow a cohesive narrative but they do build. The major change comes with the ending and.....I prefer the original. It just feels like it builds to the climax too early. Than the next 20 minutes just feel sort of tacked on and the explanation at the end feels like it drags. It's more crowd pleasing and does fit for a comedy like this. But the structure is off because of it a bit. Overall I was expecting something much worse. If this was it's own thing without the original I'd say this would have a better reputation. If your a die hard fan of any actors in this or Oz check this out. It's really not that bad and not pointless. An interesting take but just doesn't have the power of the original. See more Simon T @Bucksplit Oct 11 I enjoyed this version of Ira Levin's chiller, despite the majority of reviews being pretty mean and negative. It's more obviously satirical than Bryan Forbes' dark 1975 effort, and it overplays the finale, but it's nicely acted by an ensemble of A-listers and the production design is terrific. David Arnold contributes a Danny Elfman score. Worth a punt, I'd say. The Stepford Wives is one of the worst remakes in the history of Hollywood. Nicole Kidman, Matthew Broderick, Bette Midler, Glenn Close and Christopher Walken should have fired their agents after doing this movie. It is beyond awful.
