Critics Consensus

Tilda Swinton² is haunting in the gothic ghost story The Eternal Daughter, an ode to familial female ties that leaves much to unravel after the fog lifts.

A metafictional work elevated into something new: deeply felt and true as a story about parental enigma, spectral remembrance and ingrained British repression.

I loved living in the world of The Eternal Daughter... I enjoyed the tete-a-tete between mother and daughter. This is the feeling I want when I watch a genre film—pure escapism with a side of thought-provoking storytelling.

The Eternal Daughter is undoubtedly an interesting film that will surely leave its viewers reflecting on it long after the movie’s final frame with a misty and chilling atmosphere that sets the tone of the whole story.

The twist may seem inevitable by the time it comes around, but The Eternal Daughter is a skillfully made ghost story which highlights a filmmaker always willing to test herself.

I was bored. Really bored. From beginning to end. This a film that you can go make a sandwich and the restroom and not miss a thing.

I can sum up this movie with: Joanna Hogg finds Joanna Hogg interesting, I don't. Didn't realise this was her film until I started, but pressed on as I love Tilda Swinton (amazing in two roles) I assume Julie is the adult version of the Julie in 'The Souvenir' movies, aka: Hogg's autobiographical self). The photography was beautiful, but trying way too hard to create an atmosphere that just was not present, like the plot. Multiple shots of fog rolling in, animal noises, noises nobody bothers to investigate, nobody turning lights on at night, a grown woman too scared to go and close a window, Julie "shocked" poses, etc. There wasn't enough plot here to fill a short, let alone a 96 minute film. The "twist" was so tropey you see at at about the 2 minute mark, and by the time it comes, you have been bored into a coma. Julie's "work" seems to be a rich person's hobby, and she seems very lax about making progress on it or putting in any effort, which I see echoes of in the plot.

I loved double Tildas, it could be 4 Tildas and I wouldn't mind, but what ruined for me a little bit was that the first half hour the old Tilda had a grasp voice and after that she had normal Tilda's voice lol well, I love me some Tilda any day s2

Sobrevalorada.
