[It’s] a thriller without thrills, a movie without a trace of an identity of its own. Go to Full Review

The Girl in the River plays entirely by the book, by which I mean that there’s not a plot development you don’t expect. Go to Full Review

The filmmaker has certainly seen his share of serial killer procedural, even copying a few scenes for his debut. He should have taken another look at this one and all its other scenes before putting it out there. Go to Full Review

Despite sporting a curious farrago of cast, The Girl in the River is a painfully bland endeavor which was clearly conceived without any sort of research into criminal procedures, only exemplifying complete ignorance of narrative prowess... Go to Full Review

Predictable and full of cliches, this psychological crime thriller is emotionally hollow, offering little evidence of its talented cast. Go to Full Review

Stiffly directed with a script full of clichés, this film’s only salvation is a few sturdy and believable performances. Go to Full Review

Tiffany T @RT74628528 Sep 18, 2026 I was pretty disappointed. Pretty decent actors, but horrible script. I’m a horrible writer and I’m sure I could’ve done a better job with better transitions, etc.. This could’ve been a good movie if the writer knew how to develop characters, add more depth to the storyline and create some suspense. I had to rewind it so many times because I just got bored and wandered off. I feel like these actors deserved a lot better of a script and probably thought it was better when they signed up. See more Jack M @JackMiehof Sep 16, 2026 Starts promising, which actually makes it worse when it goes downhill (which is pretty fast). Also it's immediately clear who the killer is. Ridiculous movie where non of the actions of the main characters make any logical sense. See more Zaks British Expat Services T @RT53852458 Sep 14, 2026 Trash movie. Waste of time. Absolutely no storyline. No police work or reasoning. Seems like they are just filling in the minutes. Bad actors. Words they spoke seemed poised for effect-a lot of grandstanding for no reason. Total waste of time watching it. See more Hotma Fani H @RT22527964 Sep 12, 2026 The Girl in the River has a promising crime-thriller premise: twin sisters are kidnapped, one is found dead in the Mississippi River, while the other remains missing. Add a veteran detective duo and a young profiler trying to unravel the case in a small town full of suspicion. Unfortunately, the film feels like a thriller that's too busy trying to look mysterious without ever building genuine tension. Much of the story is predictable, while some of the twists left me wondering whether the movie actually knew where it was going from the start. Maggie Grace delivers one of the film's more solid performances as Amelia Pembrock, and the premise still has plenty of potential. But overall, The Girl in the River feels flat, cliché-ridden, and lacking an identity of its own. For me, this is the kind of movie you finish watching and immediately forget. Not because it's too terrible to sit through, but because it's simply too ordinary to leave any lasting impression. See more Rami M @RT18339067 Sep 11, 2026 Well, the premise was good but it is all over the place, looking at suspect and dismissing the lab was sus from the beginning, the gotcha moment was very bad, as if it was a surprise, I guess it was bad writing, although acting was good. If you are in bored and wants something to watch in the background without paying attention, that is one. See more Eric J @infringed Sep 11, 2026 Sometimes it’s hard to tell whether the suckage is due to bad writing or bad acting. This one is easy - both. See more Read all reviews
