Critics Consensus

Packed with colorful world-building that's as frenetic as it is weightless, The Super Mario Galaxy Movie's visuals are often out of this world but the threadbare story ultimately loses its Milky Way.

With no space for distraction, it’s clearly vying for relevance in an attention-deficit economy, and one can hardly blame it, given that we are slowly being conditioned to expect entertainment that lasts a minute at most.

It looked quite lovely and is really for little kids -- even more than the first one.

The Super Mario Galaxy Movie settles for moments of visual inspiration that replicate the little rushes of opening up new worlds in one of the games, while letting almost every character stagnate into bland affability

It has managed to improve on the original formula in every way thanks to one very specific advantage: it doesn't have to go through the always cumbersome procedures imposed by origin stories.

Cinematic junk food. Fast, colorful, loaded with sugar, and probably not the healthiest thing you could consume, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t enjoyable. Everyone has a favorite guilty pleasure snack. This is the cinematic equivalent.

The biggest crime that "Galaxy Movie' commits is that it’s fine. It entertains young audiences and delivers nostalgia while setting up a third film that most likely will come once Illumination and Nintendo work out the next idea

It was average. Had fun & enjoyed the references but it felt like less plot than the first one somehow? The animation was well done though, props to the animators! Though as someone who grew up playing Super Mario Sunshine it's so weird to hear Bowser Jr with that voice.

It was a good movie, it showed all the aspects of the Super Mario universe, as well as other characters that were totally unexpected, but amazing! It was a very short movie, and it movie very quickly, I wish there was more to it, that was my only complaint of it.
