Perry’s performance is a spectacular piece of high-wire burlesque. There’s an extraordinary spontaneity to it. Go to Full Review
Glenn Kenny New York Times Feb 13
While expansively anarchic to a fault, the movie’s anger, and its pride, is convincing. Go to Full Review

There's a lot to chuckle about in this film, and even some tender moments that tug on the heartstrings, but that doesn't mean Perry won't draw the usual critiques of his work with this one. Go to Full Review

Tyler Perry's Joe's College Road Trip feels like it's trying too hard to earn that hard R rating. Go to Full Review

Somehow, the "quality" of Tyler Perry's storytelling feels even worse when a positive, meaningful message is attempted, this time through the prism of Madea-universe regular Joe, a crass, nonsensical conduit for Black History 101... Go to Full Review

Despite a more overt message than we're used to from Mr. Perry, Joe’s College Road Trip feels stuck in the same tired rhythms — recycling broad caricature, nonsensical plotting, and humor that rarely rises above offensive. Go to Full Review

Lynn G. @RT13154571 2h Terrible writing and storyboarding as usual. Uncomfortable to watch since I know the character Joe is based on TP's actual & extremely abusive father. Not one thing made me laugh. TP's great character acting is wasted on movies like this. Anyone who enjoyed it doesn't mind black people as a whole being thrown under the bus for laughs. See more Shannah J @RT30611482 2d Some would call me a Tyler Perry super fan if they really know me. I usually love and support his work. This movie is such a turn off with all the unnecessary profanity. I remember when Tyler Perry wrote clean, Christian based material. He said that Hollywood wouldn't change him but it did. His work had a purpose to educate and inspire. This movie was so hard to watch and listen to. I hope he never makes another movie like this. See more Fitz C @sixfive190 5d Just when I thought a Tyler Perry movie couldn't get worse. I could get past the first 10 mins, straight trash. See more Hayleigh P. @haytay.shows22 5d I love all his movies they’re all so funny. I love Joe he’s so funny and unfiltered. See more T M @RT78250137 Mar 15 A lot of profanity. Its not a family movie. It use to be a time where, Christians or religious people could sit and enjoy his movies and television shows. Where the shows he made, gave glory to God and delivered a message. I dont enjoy his shows anymore. I was really looking forward to watching, but i was disappointed. See more R T. @RT17485201 Mar 14 I’m just gonna lay it out there I haven’t watched any of the madea movies this was the only movie in the madeaverse that I watched and I couldn’t stop laughing. I have watched a lot of movies and this is definitely in my top 10 of all time. Don’t think of this as a madea movie but as a great black history movie to watch during February. I love that Tyler Perry spoke up about how the new generation is and how a generational gap between grandfather and grandson can affect the viewpoint of society and social norms that the new generation has been accustomed too, and that knowing one’s history can change for all the better. Not to mention I laughed more than a majority of other movies I have watched, so don’t listen to the haters who view it as a madea movie and more of a learning experience of yourself and how we can absolutely change with the times but also know not to let society destroy your history so enjoy this “dying breed” of cinema and history See more Read all reviews
