Alain E @AlainE 1 day ago An excellent piece about a far gone era, including an appearance of Sharon Tate. I admit that until now I never tried to watch this and assumed that it was trash about "dolls". (Dolls, by the way, is slang for pills-possibly barbiturates). Prime told me that it was about to be deselected and I decided to give it a try. It is very well photographed (and restored) with a few good songs. It is a morality tale about young women trying to succeed in the show business. There is no happy ending. The options offered include suicide, alcoholism or walking away. The movie was a commercial success but , nonetheless, it represents quality entertainment. Also starts with pretty funny dialogue. In the beginning when the young woman applies for a job at a law office, she can overhear the office manager discussing someone who "is pregnant again!" Don’t panic! It’s her cat. I really liked the Patty Duke TV series about identical cousins (ridiculous). Now I realize I didn't miss anything at all with this silly film. Don't bother with this garbage. See more Susan P @RT72464524 Mar 22, 2026 Even though the '60s was a time of the Vietnam War Free Love, pot, drugs, tie dye , bell bottom pants, long hair , hippies, good music, horrible fashion and polyester, rotary phone , no internet, rebellion and outspoken young adults, etc. etc. Here in US remained a conservative and strong Christian base in . For this reason I think this is why valley of the Dolls was rated lower than it would have been today. The drugs , alcohol, infidelity, etc. Were too risque for most conservative Americans. Even though they knew these things existed being brought to light in a movie, was considered evil or bad by many people. I personally feel it was an excellent movie with good music, great actors, and a very realistic story. I truly feel it's one of the best movies in the history of cinema in United States. I give it a five star rating all day long. To See more Carl G. @CarlGemayel Feb 9, 2026 Good film not great. The topic discussed deserved better. It’s a bit messy with some good performances and other bad performances. My favorite storyline by far was that of Jennifer (Sharon Tate) and Tony (Tony Polar).
It made me feel so bad and actually a bit creeped when I saw Jennifer (Sharon Tate) being taken out by firefighters in a white bag after her suicide.
My favorite performance was that of Patty Duke, she delivers a powerhouse performance and my least favorite was that of Barbara Parkins, I just didn’t like her character and her weak performance (but that weak performance came from a weak character that was written in this way).
The score by John Williams is not bad (some songs are) but it’s definitely one of his weakest.
Good film by Marc Robson and looking forward to seeing Russ Meyer’s Beyond the Valley of the Dolls. See more Stephen C @bob25009 Sep 27, 2025 Success in 2 hours and 3 minutes!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
