An intimate portrait of three generations of one family during a weekend in London. As boisterous "Bonfire Night" celebrations are held in the chilly November weather, the family members and those closest to them find their paths intersecting and their ties evolving. While the setting is specific and contemporary, the concerns are universal and eternal: love, loss, mortality, the family ties that bind, parenting and a yearning for contentment in this world.

What to Know

Critics Consensus

A film that tackles something as simple as everyday life and succeeds beatifully. The witty script and clever direction keep the film flowing, while the superb acting keeps it alive. It doesn't aim for the sky and for that reason it hits its mark.

Wonderland is well crafted from the editing to the acting, but it often feels like a television pilot for a calculatedly hip soap opera. Go to Full Review Xan Brooks Sight & Sound Dec 2, 2002

John A @ExcessMale Jul 23, 2023 Layered multi-character study is bustling and occasionally immersive due to the distinct style of cinematography See more Sep 17, 2018 Michael Winterbottom's slice-of-life drama is well-acted but rambling and ineffective. See more Mar 29, 2013 This was a fairly interesting watch. Throughout I began to wonder what kind of camera they used to film it because it looked a little grainy and very white washed feeling. I didn't mind the way it looked. The music really tied the movie together, made it a good listening experience. See more Oct 24, 2012 London has never been more beautiful and yet rugged on films. See more Jun 14, 2012 this is a good movie, but another depressing movie.... the part where she poisoned the dog made me feel sick See more Dec 28, 2011 It's impossible not to be easily fascinated by Europe's invigorating, cheap-looking documentary-style of filmmaking. Winterbottom uses such humble resource and makes an insightful look to the difficulties and misadventures of the easiest characters to identify with in their daily urban life. One of the year's finest and better than any Academy Award nominated flick of 1999 except for The Matrix. 97/100 See more Read all reviews
