Critics Consensus

X-Men: The Last Stand provides plenty of mutant action for fans of the franchise, even if it does so at the expense of its predecessors' deeper character moments.

Sillier than the Singer versions, Ratner's movie is also -- for this less-than-reverent X-Men fan -- more satisfying. Go to Full Review

X-Men: The Last Stand has shifted the shape of the franchise from pretty good, if uninspired, to terrifically entertaining. Go to Full Review

[I] found myself strangely moved by the sense of relationships, friendly and unfriendly, coming to an end in a dull return to normality in the world of humans and mutants. Go to Full Review

At several points during The Last Stand, I wondered how many plots and subplots one film could handle, and ultimately, they all proved to be too much for one 104-minute movie. Go to Full Review

See more Zachary Jacob S Jan 19 This is a movie with some AWESOME scenes! The Golden Gate Bridge scene in particular. However, It’s a bit choppy and sidelines many characters. Scott Summer/Cyclops in particular. While sometimes fun, I didn't feel it was a satisfying conclusion to the trilogy. See more Lucas S Jan 17 Is it as bad as most reviews say? No. Is it my favorite X-Men movie? Far Also no. While the movie does do an egregious disservice to characters like Cyclops and Juggernaut, it still has the ability to get some things right like the plot and action sequences. If anything, watch the movie for the sake of continuity and completion. See more SnEaKy @basaro_o Jan 16 Weird to see people disliked this movie as badly as they did, I quite enjoyed it. Sure, not as much as the first one or the second one, but it’s still an okay movie. We see how Magneto wants to get rid of the source of the cure, which is located on Alcatraz. Jean’s back, not sure how to feel about that though. We get to see Jean’s inner conflict with her darker half and how powerful she can be. Her potential is limitless, like Professor X had said, and I think that’s well executed in this movie. I didn’t like how they just got rid of Mystique though, especially after how important of a role she played in the first two movies. Cyclops also dies very early on in the movie, and I didn’t quite like that. The post-credit scene also makes very little sense. Other than that, it's an okay movie.
