Honey Bunch (2025) 86% EDIT “Part thrilling horror and part supernatural sci-fi, [Honey Bunch] is a film that defies categorization and deserves your attention, even if every element isn’t exactly a home run.” – That Shelf Jan 25, 2026 Full Review Wicked: For Good (2025) 66% EDIT “It doesn’t quite reach the heights of [Part One] and may demonstrate that the cinematic version of Wicked would’ve been best served as one volume. That said, it’s still worth following this vibrant yellow brick road right to your local theatre.” – That Shelf Nov 25, 2025 Full Review The Choral (2025) 67% EDIT “At a time when our own world seems harsh and cruel, this is exactly the kind of film to give us space to reflect on the power of the things that most connect us. And thank goodness for that.” – That Shelf Sep 18, 2025 Full Review Ghost School (2025) EDIT “Ghost Story is a powerful, clarion call to continue questioning and actively challenge situations that harm our communities and ourselves.” – AWFJ.org Sep 15, 2025 Full Review Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery (2025) 92% EDIT “With a witty, wily script, an intriguing murder, and an A-list cast that perfectly understands their assignments, Wake Up Dead Man proves both a worthy successor and a thoroughly engrossing new chapter for Netflix’s crowd-pleasing mysteries.” – That Shelf Sep 15, 2025 Full Review Frankenstein (2025) 85% EDIT “del Toro deftly brings each of Shelley’s well-crafted layers to the fore, giving us a deep, yearning lamentation on grief, loneliness and death, and a fulsome speculation on the meaning of life, love and happiness” – That Shelf Sep 15, 2025 Full Review Lilith Fair: Building a Mystery (2025) 100% EDIT “So though Lilith Fair is a fantastic stroll through the nostalgia of a certain place and time, it’s also a reminder that real progress is hard to come by and requires constant attention, leadership, buy-in, and support.” – That Shelf Sep 15, 2025 Full Review Four Mothers (2024) 92% EDIT “The comedy covers everything from aging to loneliness to Pride to caregiving to trauma and family relationships, and does it all without tipping into full-blown schmaltz or resorting to emotional manipulation.” – That Shelf Sep 1, 2025 Full Review Aontas (2025) EDIT “There’s so much to appreciate here from a filmmaking perspective, but when it comes down to it, it is actors [Carrie] Crowley and [Brid] Brennan that make this film a true success. Aontas is a true master class from both. ” – That Shelf Sep 1, 2025 Full Review The Roses (2025) 64% EDIT “[The Roses'] darkly humorous journey of figuring it all out is a total treat, if audiences can get past a few less stellar bumps along the way.” – That Shelf Sep 1, 2025 Full Review Jurassic World Rebirth (2025) 50% EDIT “In the end, Jurassic World Rebirth engenders more of a whimper than a roar, but there’s enough here to entertain–even if it’s just surface fun.” – That Shelf Jul 7, 2025 Full Review Racewalkers (2025) EDIT “Racewalkers is truly an easy film to love. With real heart and big laughs, it’s an irresistible underdog story made to be enjoyed with a crowd.” – That Shelf Jun 5, 2025 Full Review Gladiator II (2024) 70% EDIT “It’s the grand journey [of Gladiator II] that makes for the most entertainment, and in that regard, you cannot fault this rousing, well-acted sequel. For all its minor faults, it’s well worth the price of admission.” – That Shelf Nov 12, 2024 Full Review Dahomey (2024) 97% EDIT “An intimate and focused contemplation on culture and the far-reaching consequences of colonialism, the 68-minute-long feature and the questions it raises will stay with you long after its credits have rolled.” – That Shelf Sep 14, 2024 Full Review Hard Truths (2024) 95% EDIT “With Hard Truths, the prolific director touches on something profound and simple, and the result is a stunning, compassionate portrait of humanity likely to be considered among his very best.” – That Shelf Sep 13, 2024 Full Review The Life of Chuck (2024) 80% EDIT “Some more jaded viewers may find the story somewhat simplistic and even trite, but the film’s sincerity and (Mike) Flanagan’s deft hand make it anything but. ” – That Shelf Sep 10, 2024 Full Review Twisters (2024) 75% EDIT “The disaster epic desperately tries to replicate the magic of the original but falls woefully short, largely due to a depressingly slight script from Mark L. Smith that gives its talented cast virtually nothing to work with.” – That Shelf Jul 21, 2024 Full Review Wicked Little Letters (2023) 80% EDIT “Though the film never entirely lives up to its full promise, it delights nonetheless and features divine performances from both its stars and the rest of the impressive Brit-pack ensemble.” – That Shelf Jun 29, 2024 Full Review The Book of Clarence (2023) 65% EDIT “[Jeymes Samuel's] originality, combined with some truly inspired casting, makes The Book of Clarence something truly worth seeing. If not everything completely works, you can’t help but give it points for effort.” – That Shelf Jan 18, 2024 Full Review The Holdovers (2023) 97% EDIT “Well-acted, lovingly directed [by Alexander Payne], and sharply written by David Hemingson, The Holdovers is a warm, nostalgic hug of a film that harks back to a specific and beloved era of filmmaking.” – AWFJ.org Sep 21, 2023 Full Review The Movie Teller (2023) 86% EDIT “At its heart, The Movie Teller is both a coming-of-age story--refreshingly acted and expertly told--and a love letter to the connective power of storytelling.” – AWFJ.org Sep 21, 2023 Full Review Seagrass (2023) 96% EDIT “Meredith Hama-Brown’s insight and instinct for storytelling, and her grasp on emotional truth and the power of silence, make Seagrass a truly impressive debut.” – That Shelf Sep 20, 2023 Full Review Lee (2023) 68% EDIT “Though there are some particularly fascinating avenues left frustratingly unexplored, Lee succeeds in its most integral mission: ensuring that [Lee] Miller will be held up alongside other greats of her time.” – That Shelf Sep 20, 2023 Full Review The Royal Hotel (2023) 89% EDIT “Australian director Kitty Green’s second narrative feature The Royal Hotel is a wholly unnerving and totally engrossing thriller. Atmospheric and all too realistic, it’s the kind of story that sticks with you long after the credits have rolled.” – AWFJ.org Sep 20, 2023 Full Review The End We Start From (2023) 89% EDIT “[Mahalia Belo's] confident and creative direction proves an excellent creative fit for this adaptation of Megan Hunter’s haunting novella, but it is Jodie Comer’s riveting central performance that proves truly unforgettable.” – That Shelf Sep 12, 2023 Full Review
