Pike River (2025) 72/100 EDIT “Pike River is a heartbreaking true story wrapped as a film that celebrates resilience and committing to doing the best for the ones you love.” – Mac the Movie Guy Jan 26, 2026 Full Review Soul on Fire (2025) 67% 44/100 EDIT “Disabled people aren’t so inherently inspirational that you should approach one on the street and ask them to speak to a pack of Girl Scouts, but Soul On Fire just had to go an make it weird.” – Mac the Movie Guy Jan 26, 2026 Full Review H Is for Hawk (2025) 78% 59/100 EDIT “One day, Claire Foy is likely to join the ranks of Oscar nominees, but it won’t be for H Is For Hawk.” – Mac the Movie Guy Jan 23, 2026 Full Review The Running Man (2025) 62% 53/100 EDIT “the Running Man trips and falls trying to figure out why it exists, and how to adapt to a different social climate and still maintain scathing commentary on where we are headed. ” – Mac the Movie Guy Jan 23, 2026 Full Review How to Lose a Popularity Contest (2026) 64/100 EDIT “How to Lose A Popularity Contest is perhaps the most formulaic film of the year, but I’m not so sure that’s a bad thing.” – Mac the Movie Guy Jan 23, 2026 Full Review Hazel's Heart (2025) 67/100 EDIT “Hazel’s Heart isn’t perfect, but it has enough warmth to melt the coldest of reactions, and found a roster of young actors and actresses I’d love to see get cast again in other projects.” – Mac the Movie Guy Jan 19, 2026 Full Review The Rip (2026) 80% 53/100 EDIT “RIP to the career of Joe Carnahan, whose lackluster direction is on full display as a talented roster of actors wander around a house with nothing really to do. ” – Mac the Movie Guy Jan 19, 2026 Full Review The Secret Agent (2025) 98% EDIT “It lives up to its name perhaps a bit too much as Secret Agent has no accessibility, thus remaining a mystery. However the score here is stunning, and it’s surprising it hasn’t been more widely acclaimed this season.” – Mac the Movie Guy Jan 17, 2026 Full Review Shuffle (2025) 100% 87/100 EDIT “Shuffle takes an interesting look at the price we put on someone’s head in the medical field and the sad reality of how easy it is to exploit a vulnerability on a large scale.” – Mac the Movie Guy Jan 16, 2026 Full Review Night Patrol (2025) 59% 48/100 EDIT “A victim to its release date, but even with a shift, it would still be a cops behaving badly horror title, leaning on dying tropes, albeit with a strong cast, but backed a pervasively awful score that feels like being on hold. I’m hanging up.” – Mac the Movie Guy Jan 15, 2026 Full Review SHEEPDOG (2025) 77% 75/100 EDIT “With solid performances across the board, Sheepdog is yet another feather in the cap of a set of films designed to encourage empathy and understanding for those who survived, but were willing to make the ultimate sacrifice. A resonant reminder.” – Mac the Movie Guy Jan 14, 2026 Full Review Worldbreaker (2025) 55% 60/100 EDIT “If you are in the mood for a father/daughter story, World Breaker offers a twist on the impending danger in preparation for the next fight. The human parts of world Breaker are enough to help it stand out from all the other dystopian monster films.” – Mac the Movie Guy Jan 11, 2026 Full Review A Private Life (2025) 81% 73/100 EDIT “Smart, sophisticated, and most importantly accessible, A Private Life is one of the best non English titles of the year and doubles down on an unusual mystery with an unsuspecting detective.” – Mac the Movie Guy Jan 11, 2026 Full Review It Was Just an Accident (2025) 97% No Grade Given EDIT “It’s no accident that Neon did not create or provide an audio description track for It Was Just An Accident. A film that does not want me to watch it ends up with a grade that reflects it.” – Mac the Movie Guy Jan 10, 2026 Full Review People We Meet on Vacation (2026) 75% 69/100 EDIT “Emily Bador and Tom Blyth show star potential in a derivative romantic comedy plot that still manages to be fun and fresh like a summer vacation.” – Mac the Movie Guy Jan 10, 2026 Full Review Sleepwalker (2026) 14% 66/100 EDIT “Sleepwalker is packed with enough thrills and surprises to keep you awake, at least least during the film.” – Mac the Movie Guy Jan 9, 2026 Full Review Cover-Up (2025) 98% 91/100 EDIT “Seymour Hirsch is a name everyone should know, and his compelling life story is unfolds in Cover Up, a staggering documentary that puts truth and accountability center stage at a time when it is sorely needed.” – Mac the Movie Guy Jan 6, 2026 Full Review OBEX (2025) 96% 65/100 EDIT “Albert Birney might be a genius auteur in the making, and Obex is definitely one of the weirdest films, in all the right ways, of 2026 and we’re just getting started. ” – Mac the Movie Guy Jan 6, 2026 Full Review Barbie (2023) 88% 88/100 EDIT “Can the audio description please use America Ferrera’s character’s name? No one ever says it, and the whole film she’s defined either by her job title or as a mother. Her daughter has a name, why doesn’t she?” – Mac the Movie Guy Jan 5, 2026 Full Review Quiz Lady (2023) 83% 73/100 EDIT “You’re definitely not in jeopardy of having a bad time.” – Mac the Movie Guy Jan 5, 2026 Full Review Megamind vs. the Doom Syndicate (2024) 8% 26/100 EDIT “As much as I want to tell you this one with Laura Post in it charmed my socks off, it just doesn’t live up to anything. She’s probably the best thing about the film. This is just a misfire.” – Mac the Movie Guy Jan 5, 2026 Full Review The Strangers: Chapter 2 (2025) 15% 25/100 EDIT “Someone find Tamra so we can end this franchise. Being able to repel transient forces from your land is an immediate necessity. 2000 meters have never felt more important.” – Mac the Movie Guy Jan 5, 2026 Full Review Ezra (2023) 70% 88/100 EDIT “Cannavale is emotionally committed in every frame. He plays an emotionally and almost labyrinthian complex character that is so committed to his son, he would crawl into the middle of the road and die for him if required. A career best performance.” – Mac the Movie Guy Jan 3, 2026 Full Review Grand Theft Hamlet (2024) 94% 91/100 EDIT “Grand Theft Hamlet is possibly the best pandemic era film , accepting what was and presenting itself as an honest experience had by real gamers. to thine own self be true indeed. ” – Mac the Movie Guy Jan 3, 2026 Full Review
