Stephen G @patient1 1d Our film opens with some trends hanging out, and then it gets weird pretty quickly. On a mental note, it said our intro is chapter 10, and I'm not sure where that comes into play as of yet, but I think it's counting down. I'm enjoying the visuals and the cinematography being utilized. I must say that I truly enjoying the styling of the Death sequences which allow more for our imaginations to freely let loose. From the scenes that have unfolded so far, it would appear that spirits are running amuck and enjoying themselves at the expense of the Living. It rather nicely done, and I enjoy the suspenseful feeling they were able to achieve in the filming. If you enjoy practical effects, then this film is just what you've waited for. None of the flashy "sell the gore of the kill" nonsense, but actors actually selling the scene. See more 05/22/2013 lame copycat of ju-on. ju-on art wasn't meant for Koji Shiraishi See more 01/30/2013 Similar in many respects to Ju-On and its countless sequels, American remakes, etc., Ju-Rei unfolds in a reverse chronologically order that takes us back in time from one horror to the previous one. Unfortunately, its short running time and its frequent story changes cause it to always stop short just as the real moments of creepiness and horror begin unfolding. See more 03/13/2011 This movie is played backwards - one story broken up into 10 chapters and a prologue. Yes, it does steal some bits and bobs from other J-horrors but it's still an efficient scary movie. Each chapter presents us with a character who soon succumbs to dying at the hands of a vengeful female spirit after hearing some clicking sounds (the same sound from the Ju-On movies). This time the ghost takes on the form of a schoolgirl. I did like the concept that as we work backwards with the storyline we finally get to uncover the origin somewhat of the ghost. There are some great scares with it's 'corner-of the-eye' and 'watch-the-reflections' pacing and it's sense of steadily uncoming unstoppable doom for the victims. Those expecting to see some gore will be disappointed as there's none. The creepy slow tempo makes this movie an unnerving experience. Ju-Rei isn't epic by any means but if you enjoy Japanese ghost tales, it's well worth a shot. See more 03/13/2011 This movie is played backwards - one story broken up into 10 chapters and a prologue. As is traditional with J-horror, the inevitability of the curse dominates the story. Jurei falls short of similarly themed Ju-on mainly because this one can be really rough around the edges, particularly during many of the ghost scenes. Ju-on tended to handle these very well, without betraying it's low budget. Still, J-horror buffs should watch and get something from this. See more Read all reviews
