Sentimental Value (2025) Julia Swift In this triumphant, emotional film, Trier and Vogt explore the universal experiences of family, art, love, passion and work. Reinsve's deep authenticity combines with the craft of editor Bugge Coutté to create a uniquely powerful experience.

Left-Handed Girl (2025) Julia Swift Go see Tsou Shih-Ching's beautiful, special film. A dive into what happens in a multi generational family in Taiwan when the freedom and desperation of the present collide with the constraints of tradition and the past.

Jay Kelly (2025) Julia Swift A joy to see in theaters, Noah Baumbach's film pays homage to old Hollywood madcap comedies at the same time it delves deep with intense emotional moments.

Watch the Skies (2022) Julia Swift This charming film will remind audiences of the awe they felt with classic films like E.T. The end of the script falters, but still maintains the tone of unabashed sincerity that makes us fall in love with the quirky underdog characters.

BTS Army: Forever We Are Young (2025) Julia Swift This fabulous film is about the fans who discovered BTS and really fought for them. It shows the power of fan support and the ability of fandoms to make people feel less alone.

Swiped (2025) Julia Swift Swiped is an inspiring and tragic tale of the founder of women-centered dating app Bumble. Actress James skillfully disappears into the role. After so many male founder stories, it's refreshing to get insight into one of the few female tech founders.

Shell (2024) Julia Swift The Shell's comedy, bordering on high camp, is grounded by Elisabeth Moss who can make any script feel real. The film is a super fun ride that then makes you want to talk about the themes - and that is one of the great joys of going to the movies.

Highest 2 Lowest (2025) Julia Swift One of my favorite scenes of the year, between A$AP Rocky and Denzel Washington, is buried in a mess of half baked ideas in this Spike Lee remake of an Akira Kurosawa masterpiece.

Freakier Friday (2025) Julia Swift Freakier Friday is a joyride celebrating family bonds that lets Jamie Lee Curtis revel in her brilliant comedic mastery. Go see it in a theater where you can laugh and cry with a crowd and feel the community. Can't wait for the next Nisha Ganatra film.

Sorry, Baby (2025) Julia Swift This film makes me hopeful for the future of cinema. Ava Victor's fantastic writing and directing beautifully explore how friendship can help people find the power to heal from trauma.

Yadang: The Snitch (2025) Julia Swift The film transcends the action genre with smart, layered writing and directing that allows the audience to connect with the actors on a deeper level.

Stripped for Parts: American Journalism on the Brink (2023) Julia Swift More people need to see this film. The interviews, news and articles highlighted bring to light a sea change in American Journalism that has been swept under the rug. The documentary's style is slow and old fashioned, but keep going. It's worth it.

Ex-Husbands (2023) Julia Swift The characters stay with you long after the film ends. The editing was masterful - kept the pace going when the script wandered. Pritzker elicited strong, natural performances from the actors.

Emilia Pérez (2024) Julia Swift Sublime, unforgettable. The best film I've seen in years. It made me believe in the magic of cinema again. If you've given up on hoping to be swept away by movies, see this film. Karla Gascon was wonderful. I wanted more Zoe Saldana, more Selena Gomez.

I'll Be Right There (2024) Julia Swift It’s really the first time that I’ve seen this [mother/child super close] relationship portrayed in a way where it's like ‘this can be a mother’s choice and a child’s choice that doesn’t have to be negative.’ That can be a positive, loving choice.

Borderlands (2024) Julia Swift This is the worst movie I have seen in years. Lots of top talent looking very uncomfortable. I'm assuming they didn't read the script before signing on for this mess.

Smoking Tigers (2023) Julia Swift This soulful coming of age drama takes a while to grab onto the hearts of the audience, but once it does, it won't let go. The characters will follow you for days.

Suncoast (2024) Julia Swift Wonderful first film by writer/ director Laura Chinn. This deeply moving and fresh coming-of-age story works on multiple levels, leaving audiences in its thrall long after the credits roll.

Choose Love (2023) Julia Swift Super exciting to see an interactive movie that is made for adults. If only they had spent more time on the script.

Flora and Son (2023) Julia Swift The story of the mom and her son has some strong moments, but the rest of the film falls into female stereotypes. Many moments that should be emotional feel so unreal, they push the audience out of the suspension of disbelief.

May December (2023) Julia Swift Todd Haynes will make you feel for the characters long after the credits end. See it with friends and then get ready to talk, argue, dream and scheme about where the characters go next. There will be Oscar nominations. There should be Oscar wins.

Kill Boksoon (2023) Julia Swift If you love well-choreographed fights – this film is for you. The cinematography is also choreographed, but not motivated by characters. This makes it hard to connect to the characters, except for Boksoon played by Jeon who always brings depth.

Babylon (2022) Julia Swift So bad it's shocking. Such of waste of acting talent. This is what happens when Hollywood calls someone a genuis and lets them create without ever having to think twice about any of their decisions.

A Man Called Otto (2022) Julia Swift A sweet story of the power of community to bring someone back from the brink of suicide. A film like this depends on the performances - and here there are some weak links and some standout performances.

8/10
Cat Person (2023) Julia Swift If I had seen this film at 20, it would have made me feel less alone. Even in my 50's, it gets to my core. The filmmakers marvelously recreated the all too real experience of a young woman trying to be open to a man, while also keeping herself safe.

Stutz (2022) Julia Swift If you need a shot of inspiration to pull you out of the blues, this is the film. Part biography, part therapy and lots of self-help combined with a likable yet flawed main character make this a film that will get you thinking, feeling and moving on.

Guillermo del Toro's Pinocchio (2022) Julia Swift Although the world del Toro creates is gorgeous, the story is so confused between the original tale, a fascist political angle and oddly used Christian imagery that it's too frightening for children and too muddled and boring for adults.

7/10
The Bad Guys (2022) Julia Swift A family film that feels like a ride in a convertible with wind blowing and music blasting. The style veers towards classic comics and the lighting, frame composition and sound design are top notch. Just need a stronger script for the sequel.

See You Then (2021) Julia Swift Soul-stirring film will make you want to reach out to your long lost exes to see how you've both changed. So many issues deftly explored - rediscovering passion in and for life, artistic sacrifices, and a tender look at being trans in America today.

The Power of the Dog (2021) Julia Swift Jane Campion proves once again she is a master of directing and writing and Ari Wegner establishes herself as a brilliant cinematographer. With a bit more editing, it would have been a masterpiece for the ages. As is, it's the best film of the year.

Drive My Car (2021) Julia Swift If you can stick with the 3 hour run-time, you will be rewarded with a thoughtful film about avoiding the dark side of ourselves and others. I wish the cinematography and editing were as artful as the writing.

Jungle Cruise (2021) Julia Swift The scenery is beautiful and it is a fun ride along with Emily Blunt and Dwayne Johnson but it is no African Queen.

Black Widow (2021) Julia Swift A fabulous director and two awesome stars battle their way through a wonky script.

The Boss Baby: Family Business (2021) Julia Swift In trying to reach every audience, they capture none. There is eye candy for the kids, but it makes very little sense, there is no sweetness and the moments meant for adults were just plain odd.

Wild Indian (2021) Julia Swift Phoenix Wilson makes the film worth watching. The filmmaker has promise and there are moments of brilliance but the film doesn't hold together.

Everybody's Talking About Jamie (2021) Julia Swift The choreography is awesome, and the story is uplifting, but the directing is all over the place leaving the film a fun, uneven mess.

Best Sellers (2021) Julia Swift Put two great actors in a room, let an actor direct and another one write and what do you get? Proof that making movies is about so much more than the acting.

Lorelei (2020) Julia Swift This film is the first of many I hope to see from filmmaker Sabrina Doyle. The less than stellar script is easily ignored as the audience is pulled in by Pablo Schreiber best in a career performance.

Cinderella (2021) Julia Swift Kay Cannon brings her ability to combine upbeat songs with female characters who are warm, flawed and inspiring to this new classic. I had a blast, even though Camila Cabello's acting couldn't match the depth of the rest of the cast.

Dune (2021) Julia Swift The art design and cinematography are beautiful, but the lack of characters to care about or a clear storyline result in a plodding film that it is all too easy to tune out. And Zendaya, though promised in the trailer, is barely in the film.

8/10
Spontaneous (2020) Julia Swift Hysterical, fun and so timely. This dark teen, young adult romantic black comedy with bloody scenes - goofy not scary bloody scenes, is laugh out loud funny. Trigger warning - romanticizes teen death.

The Mitchells vs. the Machines (2021) Julia Swift Sweet with a wonderfully weird edge. Strong script makes it easy for adults to watch with the kids in their life.

6/10
In the Heights (2021) Julia Swift The upbeat vibe and old fashioned dance numbers peppered with bodies of all ages and sizes are just what audience's need to raise our spirits now. The unfocused script keeps it from being a classic -- but for now, sit back, tap your feet and enjoy.

10/10
Undine (2020) Julia Swift The acting, cinematography and sound design are masterful. The pace is slow but the layers of meaning unfold sometimes subtly, sometimes through magical realism slapping you in the face. Director Petzold's last film was promising, this is the payoff.

Les NĂ´tres (2020) Julia Swift Director Leblanc moves the actors and camera in a choreographed dance with impactful close ups of Emilie Bierre. Too bad the script, co-written with actor Baribeau, skipped over the surface of this familiar tale before twisting to a rushed ending.
