Send Help (2026) Lee McCoy What works so well about the great and relatable premise is the story advancements, which could easily be predictable since it could write itself. And the over the top Raimi violence is the icing on top.

Return to Silent Hill (2026) Lee McCoy The horror visuals and world building look straight out of a video game, and that just doesn't cut it for an actual movie by a major studio. Nothing feels remotely frightening. There's really no great build to the story.

Primate (2025) Lee McCoy It's simple in it's plot and intension. Ben the chimp is so fun to watch, and literally steals the show in every scene, picking off the house occupants one by one slasher style. It boasts some gnarly kills as well.

The Plague (2025) Lee McCoy The Plague is an anti-bullying movie with a body horror angle. But you honestly don't even need the horror side of things. The performances and the subject matter are powerful, heartbreaking even.

We Bury the Dead (2024) Lee McCoy I was somewhat mesmerized by the restraint in zombie action here, and the performance of Ridley, who does struggle a bit with the American accent. But the themes of the film are quite compelling.

The Housemaid (2025) Lee McCoy As thrillers go, The Housemaid is pretty standard fare. Thankfully Amanda Seyfried elevates the material substantially.

Avatar: Fire and Ash (2025) Lee McCoy The Avatar films are so successful because of experience factor. Fire and Ash actually beefs up the characters we should care about, and introduces a new character Varang, one of the best villains in years.

9/10
Song Sung Blue (2025) Lee McCoy In a current landscape of redundant biopics, Song Sung Blue is such a breath of fresh air, with some surprisingly shocking moments. Jackman and Hudson have amazing chemistry as well.

8/10
Bugonia (2025) Lee McCoy Bugonia is probably Yorgos' most straight forward/accessible film to date, but it still has that eccentric nature about it. It's a fun little kidnapping story with two ends of the economical spectrum. Stone and Plemmons are so fun to watch.

2/10
Five Nights at Freddy's 2 (2025) Lee McCoy Five Nights at Freddy's 2 feels like a doctor's appointment. It's devoid of any tension, heart, hell even a pulse. None of the actors seem to care about the assignment, and can you blame them? This movie felt like a blank piece of construction paper.

8/10
Hamnet (2025) Lee McCoy Hamnet is raw emotion, filled with heart, regret, inspiration, and life. The final act will leave you speechless. Paul Mescal and Jessie Buckley are mesmerizing and fearless in their roles, giving the best performances I've seen this year.

7.5/10
Silent Night, Deadly Night (2025) Lee McCoy For this new 2025 version, the basic backbone of the original is there, but it's given a modern supernatural jolt, with a commanding leading role by Rohan Campbell (Halloween ends), and focused direction by Mike P. Nelson. Expect bloody fun as well.

Wicked: For Good (2025) Lee McCoy Even though there is some enjoyment and one real moment of heart and emotion, the movie ultimately falls flat and doesn't have the crescendos that the first movie has.

8/10
Keeper (2025) Lee McCoy It's a perfect slow burn that constantly keeps you guessing, and on edge much like the main protagonist Liz throughout the movie. But really what makes Keeper work so well is just how simple it is, with a constant feeling of dread throughout.

6/10
The Running Man (2025) Lee McCoy Edgar Wright directing Glen Powell is a no-brainer. It's fun and energetic at times. The big problem is the last act goes off the rails and the film does struggle to keep you invested due to some pacing issues and bloated runtime.

9/10
Predator: Badlands (2025) Lee McCoy Badlands has some some highly impressive action set pieces throughout that ramp up the popcorn factor. It's visually spectacular, and you actually care about Dek, who has a great arc since he's still a trainee and quite young.

7/10
Self-Help (2025) Lee McCoy Director Erik Bloomquist continues to flex his quirky style with charming, yet damaged characters in a horror landscape. The familial exploration only adds to the quality of the cultish nature of this film.

Christy (2025) Lee McCoy As sports biopics go, Christy is fine. Where the movie really shines is the unexpected dark places it goes in the last act.

5.5/10
Shelby Oaks (2023) Lee McCoy Shelby Oaks is pretty hollow, encased in a beautiful outer shell. It's shot very well, with oozing atmosphere and a sense of dread to help prop up the story. The biggest problem is the lack of depth and genuine scares.

7/10
Black Phone 2 (2025) Lee McCoy The strengths are in the visual style which adds a sense of horrific euphoria to the film, and the Jaws-like approach of the Grabber, only showing him sparingly. There are some pacing issues and overly corny humor, but it's extremely creative and fun.

7/10
The Red Mask (2025) Lee McCoy The Red Mask takes the meta approach with current social trends daringly and quite effectively thanks to the hard focus on what slasher movies are ultimately meant to be: bloody, inventive and fun.

7/10
TRON: Ares (2025) Lee McCoy Leto is actually quite effective as the stoic robotic Ares. Greta Lee is extremely likable. And the real star here is the NIN score which constantly elevates the action and story.

9/10
One Battle After Another (2025) Lee McCoy It's just one more masterpiece from auteur Paul Thomas Anderson. It's bold in it's timing, but unapologetic. Leonardo continues to push his limits, and Chase Infinity is compelling out the gate.

4/10
Coyotes (2025) Lee McCoy As a horror comedy, Coyotes offers very little. As a creature feature, it offers even less.

7/10
The Strangers: Chapter 2 (2025) Lee McCoy Chapter 2 is a huge step in the right direction from the generic and bland previous entry, setting up some great possibilities for the third chapter. With the gears changed to survival mode, Madelaine Petsch is quite convincing and energetic.

7.5/10
Night of the Reaper (2025) Lee McCoy Night of the Reaper injects new life into the slasher/home invasion sub-genre. For it's low-budget, it packs a lot of punch, with an unexpected but extremely delightful twist.

5/10
HIM (2025) Lee McCoy The movie feels half baked at just over 90 minutes. I strongly believe that there has to be a director's cut which might fix a lot of these issues which at the end of the day, leave the viewer scratching their head.

6.5/10
The Conjuring: Last Rites (2025) Lee McCoy You can see the love and care given to a proper Warren send-off, but the actual case, which is quite interesting and true, is given a regrettable back seat. The over-stuffed runtime doesn't do any favors either.

7.5/10
Traumatika (2024) Lee McCoy It's relentless in it's approach, and not for the faint of heart. The message on childhood trauma is ever present and abrupt. Traumatika is emotional horror in the purest sense.

Weapons (2025) Lee McCoy Zack Cregger's new thriller Weapons packs a whole lot of cinematic punch. It's got chills for sure, but it also boasts great character work and natural comedy as a result. Sometimes tragedy can bring out unexpected comedy, and it really works here.

Superman (2025) Lee McCoy Surrounding Supes with quirky/challenging characters, mixed with Gunn's punk rock writing sensibilities, is a genius stroke. Every character here is top notch, funny, and menacing all at the same time. Hoult's Lex outshines every previous iteration.

M3GAN 2.0 (2025) Lee McCoy A genre swap might be just what this franchise needed given the character. 2.0 fully commits with great action and humor, despite the clunkiness of the plot.

28 Years Later (2025) Lee McCoy It's actually quite unique and heartfelt, just don't expect the scares and intensity of the other movies. But it does beg another viewing for it's bold artistic swings.

Dangerous Animals (2025) Lee McCoy This is what happens when you infuse GREAT character work into a stale subgenre. Sean Byrne flexes his characters constantly throughout. The sharks only add to the recipe.

4/10
Karate Kid: Legends (2025) Lee McCoy Ben Wang is easily the best part of the movie with amazing physical talent and likability, but he's surrounded by a script that feels like a poor imitation of the first movie with very little heart, which is sorely needed given Wang's talents.

Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning (2025) Lee McCoy For a closing chapter, The Final Reckoning does play it safe and isn't without flaws. But if you love these characters and the great action within, it will be a fitting conclusion.

8/10
Bring Her Back (2025) Lee McCoy Bring Her Back is dark and heavy. The horror is definitely front and center when it presents itself. The beautiful cinematography only compliments the evil nature of the film. It's deeply unsettling, and good luck shaking it off.

8/10
Final Destination Bloodlines (2025) Lee McCoy Bloodlines feels a bit removed from previous entries due to current day filmmaking trends, but at it's core it's still very effective with grizzly and inventive kills. Tony Todd gets a heart-warming send-off as well.

7/10
Fight or Flight (2024) Lee McCoy Fight or Flight knows exactly what it is, and Josh Hartnett is fun to watch as a capable action star. Charithra Chandran is the big surprise, as a flight attendant (no spoilers) stuck in the middle of this mess. She has great chemistry with Hartnett too.

7/10
Thunderbolts* (2025) Lee McCoy The characters in Thunderbolts are quite fun, and charming. Florence Pugh steals the movie, and shines in every scene. It doesn't necessarily save the current state of the MCU, but it's a start in the right direction.

4/10
Until Dawn (2025) Lee McCoy Until Dawn is just another bland and soulless video game remake with cardboard characters and lifeless villains.
Posted Apr 28, 2025Edit critic review
9/10
Sinners (2025) Lee McCoy Overall Sinners is a great mix of Crossroads mixed with From Dusk Till Dawn. That's a lethal combination. And it's extra cool that Coogler was inspired by the song "One" by Metallica, as far as the movie's tone. Darkness!

5/10
Hell of a Summer (2023) Lee McCoy A few charming moments unfortunately can't save this mess of a movie. As far as camp slashers go, it doesn't commit to what makes the subgenre work well, especially in the kills dept. And the killer has zero personality.

7/10
Drop (2025) Lee McCoy As cliche as it sounds, Drop is a perfect date movie. It's swift, fun, and the two leads do have good chemistry. The story itself is pretty generic and predictable.

8/10
The Woman in the Yard (2025) Lee McCoy Woman in the Yard is an extremely effective horror film with genuine chills and flawless direction by Jaume Collet-Serra (The Shallows, Orphan). The "woman" has the makings of a new horror icon, but given the subject matter, I doubt a sequel would happen.

8/10
Death of a Unicorn (2025) Lee McCoy In true A24 fashion, Death of A Unicorn takes a common creature feature narrative, and adds a bit of the cosmic to the formula. It benefits from a group of fun and eccentric characters that would be just as entertaining in a straight up comedy.

6.5/10
Locked (2025) Lee McCoy Locked strives hard to keep the viewer entertained throughout, and it does well for the most part. We're not reinventing the wheel here. But overall Locked is nothing special, like expected. It feels like a direct to streaming film.

7/10
Disney's Snow White (2025) Lee McCoy Disney's Snow White continues the trend of bland Disney remakes. This barely gets a pass for the brisk pacing, the entertainment value and the two leads. The CGI dwarves are the stuff of nightmares though.

7/10
The Gorge (2025) Lee McCoy The Gorge has an epic look to it, almost as if Denis Villeneuve was behind it. Anya T Joy is always charming and electric for the camera. The plot ideas are a bit surface level, as well as a mishmash of other movies.

9/10
The Monkey (2025) Lee McCoy It's a tonal shift from Perkins' previous films, and the timing couldn't be more perfect to fimly plant himself as one of the most important horror directors today. The Monkey is blood thirsty and off the wall hilarious.
